Everyone says that the end of the school year goes by in the blink of an eye, and while that might be true, there are still lots of events coming up to fill up the short time left in the school year.
Student Council will be hosting their annual Spring Celebration on the front lawn Tuesday, March 31 at 5:30, which will include performances from the Big Red Band and the A Cappella Choir, as well as an egg hunt in the horseshoe. Key Club will hold a spring EGGStravaganza at the same time, which will be a trunk or treat for kids in the community.Â
“Lauren (Flanagan) suggested that we have a situation similar to the Halloween trunk or treat that we did earlier in the fall, but adding different treats other than candy, like little fidgets and toys,” Key Club Vice President Kara Pascarella said. “I am most excited to decorate my trunk for the Key Club trunk, and to see how excited the little kids get.”
Spring break is the final big break in the school year and students will be out of school April 4-13.
“I’m so excited for spring break because I get to go to Disney and feel the sun and get a tan,” senior Ava Boggs said.
Right after spring break ends, it is SAT Day for the county April 15. Freshman and sophomores will be taking the PSAT, and juniors will take the SAT. Juniors will also have the opportunity to go bowling at Emerson Lanes after, as long as they participate in SAT Bootcamp April 1.
“I’m excited for bowling because it gives us juniors an incentive to really crack down and focus on our SATs and it’s a good reward for us doing our best on such an important test,” junior Paityn Davis said.
The end of the third nine weeks means it’s time for another academic thuse April 21. The thuse will start fourth period and acknowledge students with high GPAs and good attendance.
The band’s spring concert will be May 7 at 7:00 p.m. and will include performances from the Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble and Jazz Band. It will also be Director Dan White’s last concert before he retires at the end of the year.
“It feels funny, knowing that I have been doing this for four years. Emotions will definitely hit me pretty hard the day of,” said senior Will Simonton, who is a four-year member of the band.
The choir’s spring concert will be held May 19 at 7:00 p.m. and will include performances from the Chamber Choir, A Cappella Choir and other ensembles. Seniors will be recognized for their last concert and will be singing the senior song, as well as having a senior conduct the alma mater.Â
“This is my fourth year doing choir, and I can’t believe this will be my last time singing for PHS,” said senior Kendall Kimes, who is a member of the Chamber and A Cappella choirs. “This last concert will be so special because it’s a way for me and my fellow classmates to showcase the work we put into these songs throughout the school year, and it is a very special moment for the seniors.”
With the end of the year quickly approaching, spend time with friends and maybe spend some extra time at school. Make sure to enjoy the spring events before they wilt away.
