This Friday is the deadline for students to turn in entries for Wood Whispers.
Sign-up sheets can be found with English teachers, art teachers or Mary Blaker in 323C. Entries must be submitted to Blaker by Friday, Jan. 16. Submissions can be for the cover design, signature poem, poetry, photography, short story, essay, art or digital art. The specific rules for each category will be on the same page as the entry form, which must be included with each submission. The maximum number of entries for a student is one per category.
Winners will have their work put into the 2026 Wood Whispers book, the county’s annual literary magazine. Art and photography will be printed black and white. Short stories have a maximum of 1300 words, and essays have a maximum length of 800. All works must be made by the student, with no plagiarism.
The winners and their families will be invited to an awards ceremony at Grand Pointe Conference Center on May 6 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. All students who are published into the book will get a free copy of Wood Whispers.
“I think Wood Whispers is really great, because a lot of times we don’t get to showcase awesome writing and awesome art and Wood Whispers allows us to do that,” Blaker said. “There were community members that purchased Wood Whispers. It’s not just for us at PHS, and South, and Williamstown and the middle schools. It’s for the community as a whole.”
