Danielle Brookover, nurse

Q: What do you do at PHS?

A: I’m the school nurse.

Q: Where were you before you started at PHS?

A: I’ve spent the last five years at VanDevender Middle School. I also worked for a couple of months at Jackson Middle School.

Q: How long have you been a nurse?

A: I’ve been a nurse for 12 years. This is year six as a school nurse.

Q: What are you excited about this year?

A: I’m excited to be at PHS. I’m looking forward to seeing familiar faces but also meeting new people, too. Change can be scary but I’m looking forward to working with all the students and staff.

Q: What is your approach to nursing?

A: Being open and honest with students. I want students to feel comfortable enough to seek out care if needed.

Q: What do you want students to know about you?

A: I love dachshunds (weiner dogs). I have a long-haired dachshund and chocolate lab. I have two boys who keep me busy in my free time.

Q: What inspired you to become a nurse?

A: Honestly, at one time I wanted to be a teacher but switched to nursing because I enjoy taking care of others. It didn’t take long to realize that teachers and nurses have a very similar role. As a nurse, you do a lot of educating.

Q: Do you have a quote or saying you live by?

A: “Try to be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud.”

Q: What hobbies do you have outside of school?

A: I spend a lot of my free time outdoors. I enjoy watching sports. I also enjoy time spent on my boat.

Q: Do you have any advice to students?

A: Take care of yourself. You must take care of yourself before you can take care of others.
