Seniors recognized at boys soccer game

Senior night held Oct. 12

Several teams and clubs honored seniors at Stadium Field on Oct.12 during the boys soccer team’s last home game. Senior night is a traditional ceremony normally held during the last home game of a sport to honor the senior members of the team. The Red Wings, cheerleaders, band and A Cappella Choir all attended to show support for the soccer team and its senior players, and were also recognized.

“It feels really nice,” said senior band member Isabella Reidmiller. “I’ve put four years of hard work into the band and it’s bittersweet to be moving on.”

The girls soccer team made an appearance to have their seniors recognized as well, after they held a poorly attended senior recognition the week prior.

The senior members of the boys soccer team include Tristen Brogan, Kota Butcher, Sammy McCale, Grant Miller, Tanner Minnite, Riley Smith, Terrance Wright, and foreign exchange student Matteo Campani.

Soccer games are not widely attended by students, so the size of the crowd came as a surprise for the senior members.

“There were a lot more people there than we were used too,” said Wright.

The boys played Morgantown and lost 4-3. They played one last regular season game at Linsly on Oct. 14 and won 2-1.

The first sectional game for the boys team was Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Stadium Field vs. South.

“We felt confident going into sectionals,” said Wright.

The team won with a penalty kick shootout, which advanced them to the sectional championship on Oct. 21 where they played Hurricane at home and lost 2-0. This game brought an end to the 2021 soccer season, with the team ranked 7th in the state overall.
