PHS had three first place winners in the annual Wood Whispers competition, including a victory in the signature poem category, with other students earning places or honorable mention. Wood Whispers is a literary magazine showcasing art and writing created by Wood County students from elementary to high school, celebrating youth for their creativity and potential.

No Big Red has won the signature poem category since Courtney Stackpole in 2012, and Ward is proud and excited for her poem to make the front page of Wood Whispers. She has always loved poetry and is inspired by her father, who is a poet.
“When I was a sophomore, I wouldn’t have expected myself to get as far as I have with poetry,” Ward said.
Big Reds also earned several awards in the art and photography categories.

Wood Whispers is scheduled to be published and available for purchase May 7, the day of the Wood Whispers celebration for winners at Grand Pointe. Students may order a $5 book through English teacher Mary Blaker after May 7, and should receive their copy around a week later.
