Winter sports wrap up with six state champions

The wrestling team competed in the 78th West Virginia State Wrestling Tournament March 6-8. The boys team brought home second place overall while the girls team placed fourth. The boys ended the tournament having the most champions on one team with four, and coach Matt Littleton was named Coach of the Year. Individual accomplishments were:

 

Boys

Seth Drennen (106): first place

Colston Skeen (126): first place

Dominic Way (138): first place

Kayden McDonald (144): third place

Swim

The girls and boys swim teams competed in the state swim meet in Morgantown Feb. 20-21. The boys ended with a score of 113, putting them in fourth place, while the girls ended with a total score of 104, finishing sixth place overall. Freshmen Levi Morr and Delaney Snodgrass both broke school records in the 500 freestyle. The individual and team events were:

 

Boys

Boys 200 freestyle relay: seventh place (Cooper Morris, Noah Brown, Daniel Martin, Liam Crichton)

Boys 400 freestyle relay: fifth place (Martin, Morris, Braden Williams, Morr)

Boys 200 medley relay: second place (Morr, Andrew Shafer, Crichton, Williams)

 

Levi Morr: boys All-Tournament Team, first place boys 500 freestyle, third place boys 200 individual medley 

Brayden Lotton: 12th place boys 500 freestyle

Braden Williams: 12th place boys 100 backstroke

Andrew Shafer: fourth place boys 100 breaststroke

Girls

Girls 200 freestyle relay: seventh place (Jaelyn Kalika, Kayley Kalika, Lily Jones, Lily Farinash)

Girls 400 freestyle relay: sixth place (Kayley Kalika, Farinash, Adelaide Vann, Snodgrass)

Girls 200 medley relay: sixth place (Snodgrass, Farinash, Jones, Vann)

 

Delaney Snodgrass: girls All-Tournament Team, first place girls 500 freestyle, first place girls 200 freestyle

Adelaide Vann: fourth place girls 50 freestyle 

Girls Basketball

The girls basketball team (17-8) ended their season March 12 at the state basketball tournament in Charleston. The girls beat Hurricane March 4, 64-49, to claim the regional title and advance to the state tournament for the first time since 2019. They lost to George Washington 59-50 in the first round of the tournament. Individual accomplishments were:

Boys Basketball

The boys basketball team ended their season March 11 with a season record of 9-15. The boys made it to the regional finals after beating Cabell Midland 68-60 March 7. The boys then lost to Spring Valley in the finals 70-53, ending their season. Individual accomplishments were:
