As we watch the snow pile outside our windows, all that most can think of is not having to go to school. Having just survived five snow days and possibly expecting more, here are 10 fun ways that you can spend your snow day.
1. Sledding
One of the funnest things to do on a snow day is to find a big hill and sled down it. The thrill of having no control over the sled and feeling the wind on your face can never be beat. You could find a popular sledding hill, like Jackson Park Sledding Hill, or you could race others down the hill. Although having to drag the sled back up the hill is never fun, the rush of speeding down is worth it.
2. Build a Snowman
Another classic way to enjoy the snow is to go out and build a snowman. It is most fun to build a snowman with your family or friends, and working with each other is a great bonding experience. Rolling up the balls of snow for the body of the snowman is very satisfying, and it’s fun getting to push it through the snow and trying to determine what is the perfect size.
3. Snowball Fight
Another fun way to play in the snow is by having a snowball fight. The best way to play is by building up a big supply of snowballs and then ambushing someone. You must find the perfect snow and then be able to compact the snowball really well. It takes practice to be able to aim and hit someone in the perfect spot.
4. Build a Snow Fort
One thing that will make your snowball fight more strategic is to build a snow fort. It will give you shelter from incoming snowballs and give you somewhere to make and keep your snowballs. You can decide to make either a simple wall to hide behind or a full-on igloo to chill out in. It will bring out your inner child to be able to enjoy your dream snow fort.
5. Make a Snow Angel
A great way to make you feel like a child again is to lay down in the snow and make a snow angel. It is very fun to get down in the snow and make your angel and then try to get up without ruining it. There are many ways that you can enjoy making snow angels: you could make a scene in the snow with different snow angels or you could have every member of your family make one to make a family of snow angels. Just make sure that you have your whole body covered so that you don’t get covered in snow.
6. Walk in the Snow
The perfect way to enjoy the beauty of the snow is to take a walk. Bundle up and stroll around your neighborhood to admire the fresh snow. Walking through a winter wonderland is a great way to clear your mind and make yourself forget about some of your troubles.
7. Watch The Snow
If you are not a big fan of going out in the snow but still want to see it, you could watch it through the window. Some of the best winter memories are when you watch the snow fall or when you wake up and look out the window to see everything covered in snow. It is very whimsical when you are able to sit and be warm in your home as you watch the beautiful snow falling outside.
8. Stay In
If you are staying in and don’t know what to do, it is the perfect time to try something new. You could start watching a popular TV series or movie that you have never seen. You can read a new book or try a new recipe. There is nothing better than cuddling up on the couch while the smell of food floats through your house.
9. Do Schoolwork
If you want to be productive during your snow day, you can work on schoolwork. You can make sure that all of your homework is done and ready for when you get back. If you have no work to do, then you could study for an upcoming test. Although it might not be a very fun way to spend your day off, it is very beneficial.
10. Help a Neighbor
My last suggestion for how to spend your day off is by helping somebody. If you have an elderly neighbor or just want to help out another person, you could shovel or salt their sidewalk or driveway. It is a good way to spend your time and to talk to and get closer to your neighbors.
