A time to give thanks and a time for cheer! Thanksgiving and Christmas are two of the biggest holidays in the U.S. These last two months of the year are arguably the busiest ones, but schools can be found empty at times. Thanksgiving and Christmas earn students a welcome break from education.
Christmas Break begins on Dec. 20 with a Professional Learning Day, and it lasts two full weeks. Students come back to school on Jan. 6, 2025. However, students just came back from Thanksgiving Break a mere two weeks ago.
“Coming back from Thanksgiving Break was terrible. Like a lot of people, I was in a total state of sloth and tiredness. The break had seemed so short. It felt like only a few days,” freshman Brayden Stephens said.
The Thanksgiving Break was a week long with students returning on Dec. 2. However, students do not have to wait long for another break. Only three weeks separate the Thanksgiving and Christmas Breaks. Some students are finding the weeks difficult.
“The biggest hurdle to get through is still staying on task and getting assignments done. After not doing work all Thanksgiving, getting back into the flow of working is difficult. Especially when you’re going to be on break in a few weeks anyway,” freshman Cooper Gherke said.
Despite the difficulties, students are eager for the coming weeks of fun.
“I’m most looking forward to our annual A Cappella Christmas Concert. Our first one is next Friday for the 5th graders and then our big one is on the 18th. I can’t wait to show everyone what (I) have been working so hard on (for) the past couple of months,” sophomore Chloe McCloskey said.
Other students like freshman Nicholas Romine are excited for the winter sports season.
“With Christmas Break approaching, that means the basketball season is also coming. I can’t wait to have the practices and the games during that time,” Romine said.
For all their stress, students remain happy for the upcoming Christmas Break. The winter months offer many pastimes that leave everyone feeling merry.
“I am looking forward to all of the activities coming up this month and in January,” freshman Madison Buskirk said. “I am looking forward to go skiing, ice skating, sledding, build a snowman, make(ing) hot chocolate, and listen(ing) to Christmas music.”
