After breaking three school basketball records, senior Trinity Balog looks forward to the remaining girls basketball season. Balog has 1,426 points and now holds the records for the most points scored in a single season, the most points scored in a single game (44) and has the most career points of all time out of both the boys and girls teams.
“I’m proud of myself,” said Balog. “It’s cool to be able to have my name in the school until someone else breaks it (the record).”
Balog went into the season with the goal to join the “thousand point club,” and since she’s exceeded that mark, she now turns her sights towards the team winning at states. The girls basketball team will play Huntington on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the regional finals. Balog believes that the Big Reds’ undefeated record against Huntington, winning all three games played against them so far this season, will mean a victory on the court on Thursday. After winning a total of three postseason games, the girls would qualify for states.
“It’s a home game,” said Balog of the Huntington game. “We need everybody there.”
Balog values being part of the team and how friendships with her teammates have helped to create their successes. She recognizes how close she and the other basketball players have become and “care(s) about each and every one of them.” Other than her teammates, Balog also values working hard to be successful and believes that’s helped her get where she is now.
“Always work hard and (take) no days off,” said Balog.
On top of basketball, Balog is also involved in Senior Women’s Club and has half days where she does co-op at Emerson Elementary School. Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her friends and working out in the gym. She finds her family, friends, Christianity and basketball to be important parts of her life. She has also enjoyed her time as a Big Red.
“This is my high school,” said Balog. “I’ll forever cherish my memories here.”
