As the snow falls from the sky and the cold breeze hits your skin, all you want to do is sit inside with a nice cup of hot chocolate, wrapped up in a warm fuzzy blanket watching a good Christmas movie. But there are so many options! To avoid all of the stress, I have created a list of what movies to watch and what to avoid when picking your holiday movie marathon lineup. Even though the holidays are over, it’s never too late for a good Christmas movie.
“Elf” (2003) 5/5
The classic movie “Elf” starring Will Ferrell follows the storyline of an elf named Buddy that leaves the North Pole to find his dad.
This is a Christmas staple. It is a great movie to watch with your family. It is a heart-warming comedy that anyone that loves Christmas will enjoy. Will Ferrell’s performance in this movie was amazing and he really embodied the mind of an elf. I truly have nothing bad to say about this movie, so grab some spaghetti with syrup and M&M’s and enjoy!
“Home Alone” (1990) 5/5, “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” (1992) 4.5/5, “Home Alone 3” (1997) 2/5
The “Home Alone” movie trilogy is loved during the holidays. They are funny but tie in a good message. The first two movies follow a young boy named Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, who wishes he has no family, until one day he wakes to an empty home. In the first movie, he has to protect his house by pulling pranks on two burglars who try to break in, thinking that all of the McCallisters were away on their Paris trip.
I absolutely love the first two movies but I would definitely stop after the first two. The third is just a repeat of the first movie with different characters and I find it annoying. So just do yourself a favor and stop after the second.
“A Christmas Story” (1983) 2/5
Every time I think of this movie the word BORING comes to mind. This is a beloved movie to many but I just really cannot get into it. It has a few funny scenes but I would not recommend it. There are many better Christmas movies out there to watch, so don’t waste your time on this movie.
The Polar Express (2004) 4.5/5
I have been watching this movie, directed by Robert Zemeckis, every Christmas since I was in preschool. A bored young boy takes a whimsical train ride to the North Pole, along with many other children.
I love this movie. It has that very warm, nostalgic feeling. It really brings the Christmas spirit to life. The only reason it isn’t a 5/5 for me is because I have seen it so many times, but for someone who has never seen it you will love it! It is a Christmas classic.
