On the evening of Tuesday, Dec. 5, the annual Christmas tree lighting was held in the horseshoe. It featured performances by the A Cappella Choir, Red Wing Drill Team, the Big Red Band and a reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” by members of the Diversity Student Union.
Several school clubs and organizations decorated Christmas trees for the event, which were later donated to local families in need.
“It’s (the tree lighting) been going for almost 90 years,” Student Council adviser Michelle Swisher said. “It helps needy families in the community. They get a tree just like everybody else.”
The A Cappella Choir performed “Silent Night” followed by “O Come, O Come Emmanuel,” and the Red Wings performed to “Rockin Around the Christmas Tree.”
“I think it went really well,” said sophomore Red Wing Brooklyn Miller. “The rain made it more nerve wracking due to it being slippery but in the end it all worked out and performing for everyone was very fun.”
